The Wild Comes Alive With Jungle Book

Those born in the previous generation can bring their childhood memories back to life with Disney’s latest updated release of The Jungle Book. Rudyard Kipling’s hit book about the exotic life of the wild and the entanglement of a young man with the animal kingdom had all of us fall in love. The first Jungle Book movie was released in 1967, with a follow-up that included a feisty little girl called Shanti who tried to lure the easily-hypnotized man-cub, Mowgli.

The Jungle Book tells the story of a young baby lost in the woods and is brought up by the beloved Baloo the Bear and the wise old Bagheera the Black Panther. His adventures in the wild include escaping from the evil tiger, Sher Khan, who is hell-bent on having the man-cub for lunch, since his own pack was wiped out by Mowgli’s fellow humans. Of course, there are other interesting characters as well, including Kaa the hypnotic python, who tries to get Mowgli within his grasp and King Louie, the self-proclaimed “King Of The Jungle”.

The remake looks to be something out of childhood dreams, with spectacular landscapes and life-like wildlife that captivates the imagination. Some of the biggest names in Hollywood are lending their voices to the characters.

Neel Sethi as Mowgli

Bill Murray as Baloo

Ben Kingsley as Bagheera

Idris Elba as Sher Khan

Lupita Nyong’o as Raksha

Scarlett Johansson as Kaa

Giancarlo Esposito as Akela

Christopher Walken as King Louie

Russell Peters as Rocky

There was some controversy with Scarlett Johansson lending her voice as Kaa. The character has been voiced by males in the pat. However, from the trailers, one can already see that she’s done a pretty fantastic job acting as the hypnotic python we know and love. Check out the trailer for Disney’s The Jungle Book.
